New Regulations Proposed on Tyre Labelling
A consultation exercise run by the UK Government over consumer labelling of tyres will shortly come to an end.
The consultation is over proposed new regulations, which will enforce directly applicable European Union obligations to encourage consumers to purchase tyres that will reduce the environmental impact of motoring through reduced fuel consumption and noise.
In the consultation document, the Government has set out its chosen approach to enforcing these requirements, which involves:
- appointing a market surveillance authority, and
- introducing the minimum legislation necessary to support the enforcement of tyre labelling using a risk-based approach.
According to the Government, this approach will ensure that monitoring and enforcement impose a minimal burden on business, while still complying with all necessary requirements.
