How Do I Order from Strathclyde Tyres?

Buying tyres can be a difficult and confusing process, especially if you do not know what type of tyres you require or if you do not know your tyre size. However, ordering from Strathclyde Tyres could not be simpler. Our site allows you to simply write your registration number into our search engine that will then show you a wide range of tyres available to you. You can then sort these tyres by price, rating or even brand.

After you have chosen the tyres that are right for you, you will then get to choose what branch you would like to have the tyres fitted and your preferred appointment date and time.

What is/How do I find my tyre size?

It can be difficult to find out what tyre size you have and the last thing you want is to go to a garage without knowing as this simply wastes more of your time waiting for the fitting. Many people believe that your tyre type is in your car manual. However, these figures can be misleading if the manufacturer's standard wheels are no longer fitted to the vehicle.

Finding your tyre size can be done by looking at the right-hand side of your current tyres. On your tyres you will find the size, looking something like 205/55/R16/89V. This code shows the width, profile, size and speed you require when fitting your tyre. It is vital that as well as checking tyres at the front of your car, you also check those at the back as they can differ.

Alternatively, through using our online service, you can check the size of your tyre using only your registration number. Once you type this in, our service will pull up your vehicle type, and once you confirm this is correct, we will show you a large range of tyres that could be purchased for your vehicle. For those on a budget, we break down our product into three categories, premium, mid-range and economy.

What if I wish to return my tyres?

Strathclyde Tyres will as soon as reasonably practicable within 21 days of being notified by the Excel Scotland Members to do so repair or replace any goods supplied in terms of the contract which have become defective.

The Strathclyde Tyres Product warranty covers all products supplied that become unusable due to a workmanship or material related condition during its useable tread life where such defects occur under proper usage and are due to faulty design, during the period of 12 months from fitment or 18 months from delivery.

Strathclyde Tyres will repair or replace any goods supplied within 30 minutes of notification on site and within 60 minutes off site.

What Tyre Should I Choose?

Choosing the right type of tyre can be difficult especially as the tyre itself and tyre quality can make such a huge difference to your vehicle. At Strathclyde Tyres, we offer a wide range of high-quality tyres that are suitable for your vehicle.

To see the full range that is available to you, simply enter your registration in our tyre homepage which will help you see the cost, brand and aid you in choosing the right tyres for you.

New regulations around tyre performance labelling have made it easier to make a choice when it comes to purchasing tyres. New European Law passed made it compulsory for tyres to be sold along a label that shows their performance on wet roads, fuel economy, rolling distance and road noise.

This law allows consumers to get more information about tyre performance and what tyre could be right for them. Under the system, tyres are rated on a scale of A-G (A being the best) making it instantly understandable which tyres have the best performance and which don't perform as well as others.

What Does the Price Include?

Having served our customers for over 25 years, we believe that being open and honest with customers is imperative. Therefore, when you purchase tyres with Strathclyde Tyres, there are no hidden costs.

If your vehicle requires a wheel locking nut, we request that you provide this to our team when you show up at the garage so that our staff can remove your wheels. This nut can is most commonly found in the boot with a puncture repair kit or in the glove box.

How long does a fitting take?

Fitting a single tyre can take around 30 minutes. However, it is impossible to say exactly how long your fitting will take as many factors can have an impact. If your car has a wheel lock, this can add to the fitting time. Also, the number of tyres that you are having replaced, the type of tyre you are having installed and the size of your tyre can increase the time the work takes to complete.

When you come to have your tyres fitted, we offer a morning or afternoon slot on the day and we aim to have most tyre fittings completed in their designated slot time.

Do I have to pay anything else at the fitting?

At Strathclyde Tyres, we have been in business for over 25 years, and we have not lasted so long in the industry without good value for money and a high-level of customer service. As such we have no hidden costs or add-ons following your purchase. The cost you pay either online or over the phone covers your standard rubber valves, fitting, balancing, VAT and disposal of your old tyres.

The only way you will be charged more at the garage is if you are opting to have more work done while you are in the garage or if your car requires a service.

Some factors such as the time of your order and your location can affect the arrival of the delivery. However, in some cases, we can arrange a swift delivery. If carrying out a Mail Order, we schedule deliveries with a lead time of 3-4 working days to allow our couriers to ship the stock, although there are occasions when tyres can arrive at a garage ahead of schedule.

Are all of our tyres brand new?

We specialise in selling the best brands and quality of tyre for our customers. All of our tyres are brand new. Tyres are classed as "brand new" if correctly stored for up to 3 years and "new" for up to five years, however, most of our tyres are no more than 18 months old. You can find out how old your tyres are on the tyre wall. For example, of your tyre says 5013 it means that your tyre was made in the 50th week of 2013.

What happens to my old tyres?

All of the tyres we remove are disposed of in an appropriate way utilising government-approved disposal companies.

What speed rating do I need?

The speed rating can be found on the right wall of your tyres and can be of terrific importance when selecting new tyres. We recommend that you fit tyres with the same or higher speed rating than those originally fitted to your vehicle. If you have any concerns regarding the tyres that you have chosen for your vehicle or if you think your tyres have too low a speed rating we recommend checking your vehicle handbook. Alternatively, you can contact our team if you are considering buying new tyres or have any concern over your current speed rating.

How often should I check tyre pressure?

One of the most likely signs that you may need to replace your tyres is if you are continually losing air pressure. Tyre pressure will be affected by many factors with weight in the car being the most common factor affecting wheel pressure. The ideal pressure of your tyres can be found in your manual and we recommend that you check the pressure at least once a month to make sure you are safe on the road. Another simple way to test tyre pressure is by touching the tyre after a long drive. If the tyre is warm, then it is likely that your tyre will be low on pressure.

Do I need a spare tyre?

A spare tyre can be vital if you suffer a puncture or blow out and having a spare tyre can get you back on the road once you have called a breakdown service. If you need a spare tyre, inform our team when you go for a tyre fitting.

Do I need winter tyres?

When it comes to driving, safety is paramount, and winter tyres can make all the difference when driving in dangerous winter conditions or when the temperature is below 7 degrees. Winter tyres will stop up to 11 metres earlier than regular tyres in icy conditions when braking at 20mph. Indeed, you may have already considered purchasing winter tyres if you live in a remote area where weather conditions are worse for longer. However, there is no UK law regarding ownership of winter tyres like there is in some European countries.

If you have any concerns or questions about purchasing, winter tyres contact our team or your local Strathclyde Tyres garage.
